Akhnoor (Jammu), Jan 14 (KNO): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday praised soldiers for sacrificing “their today to safeguard the tomorrow” of their countrymen.
Speaking at the Armed Forces Veterans Day event here, Omar, according to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said, “We sleep peacefully because we know you are guarding the borders and will fight the enemies of the country."
“I am lucky to be among you on Veterans Day. You have sacrificed your today for our tomorrow. You didn’t care for your lives; you did whatever you could for the nation. You were always ready to sacrifice everything for the country,” he added.
Reiterating the Jammu and Kashmir Government’s commitment to the welfare of veterans, the Chief Minister said, “It is our duty to take care of your needs. We are not doing any favor by helping you; we are indebted to you. The J&K government will do everything in its power to support you.”
He also stressed the importance of fostering strong relationships between the J&K government and ex-servicemen. “We want to strengthen the relations between the J&K government and the ex-servicemen. We will stand with you shoulder to shoulder,” he assured.
The Chief Minister said, “It is because of you that we are excelling. I assure you that the government will work for you. Recruitment, financial schemes—our administration will support you in every way possible.”
He also highlighted the role of his cabinet minister Satish Sharma, the son of an ex-serviceman, and former Member of Parliament Madan Lal Sharma. He said, “In my cabinet, there is a minister who comes from an army family. We will work with that understanding and perspective to address your concerns.”
The event was attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, and GOC-in-C of Udhampur-based Northern Command Lt Gen M.V.
